This past New York Bridal Market, one of the most exciting events in the wedding industry, took place October 14-19, and Perfect Wedding Guide was there to report on all of the Fall 2012 bridal fashions. Top designers from Angel Sanchez to Vera Wang presented their new collections. Here’s our rundown of the five haute-est wedding trends in bridal fashion for the upcoming year.

Ethereal Gowns After seasons of structured satin gowns, flowing wedding dresses in fluid fabrics like chiffon, organza, and soft lace dominated the runway. A-line, sheath, and empire silhouettes floated down the runway. Trumpet and ball gown silhouettes were beautifully featured in airy fabrics, replacing heavier ones without compromising any of the traditional shapes. These flattering dresses bring dreamy destination weddings to mind or a grand affair for the modern princess bride. Designers to Watch For: Alfred Angelo, Angel Sanchez, Monique Lhuillier, Reem Acra

Monique Lhuillier fall 2012 Illusion Details Necklines, sleeves, and backs of sheer lace or tulle with intricate details is a trend that is coming on fast and furious. The translucent look ranged from modest with just a bit of transparency to sexy with layers of fabric revealing skin in sophisticated ways. Either way, we love the romantic, yet modern look. Angel Sanchez spring 2012 Dramatic Black Brides are getting bolder and designers are helping them push the limit. Black wedding gowns, which queen couturier Vera Wang sent down the runway, as well as black cocktail dresses and eveningwear for the second dress were so gorgeous we didn’t even miss the white. This look also goes hand-in-hand with the resurgence in the black-and-white wedding. Designers to Watch For: Romona Keveza, Vera Wang

Sleeves Wedding dresses featuring sleeves and natural waists are having a major moment thanks to Kate Middleton. Last season, we saw a hint of the lace sleeves and fitted waists, which the Duchess of Cambridge made so famous and pulled off so well, in Romona Keveza’s Legends spring 2012 collectionforecasting what our new favorite royal would wear on her wedding day. This season, other designers showed their take on the demure, regal style. We like. Designers to Watch For: Monique Lhuillier, Romona Keveza, Rivini, St. Pucchi

Romona Keveza Legends spring 2012 Sassy Bridesmaid Dresses This season, bridesmaids dresses have evolved into stylish cocktail numbers any bride’s attendant would be thrilled to wear. Models strutted in shorter, flattering lengths with details like flouncy hems, asymmetrical drapes, and tiered skirts. Designers are also offering more fashionable shades that brides can use as inspiration for their wedding colors. Another plus: these dresses can really be worn after the wedding for work or dinner with a cardigan or jacket. Designers to Watch For: WTOO Brides, Enzoani, Sophie Chang
