Food - The "Other" Reason People Go to Weddings!

You’ve made it down the aisle and now it’s time to enjoy the fruits of all the hard work you put in over the last months! Trying to put together a menu that satisfies a wide variety of tastes and pallets can be a daunting task for anyone. Gone are the days of merely chicken, steak or fish. Caterers today offer more options to not only fit your budget but fit the personalities of the bride and groom. Here are some of current trends we’re seeing in the world of wedding food.

1. Throwback Treats Did you and your groom have your first date while enjoying a movie and popcorn? Or perhaps you shared your first kiss over pizza. Whatever the case may be, certain foods hold a sense of nostalgia for you and your groom. More and more weddings are featuring dishes that not only taste great but hold a deeper meaning and help add just one more level of personalization.

2. Fun Stations While stations like meat carving, pasta bars and chocolate fountains are still very prevalent, trending now are stations with more unique offerings such as a baked potato bar, artesian cheese bars – even doughnut bars! In a recent article from CBS News, Anja Winkikka told TheKnot.com that “...making food more of an experience... like a bar with a chef shucking oysters, or a guacamole bar with a chef muddling the ingredients together in front of you – it’s fun to watch.” Food bars allow your guests to get creative and give them something they'll be sure to remember about your day.

3. Food Trucks A trend that has certainly swept the nation has also made an appearance on the wedding catering scene – food trucks. These trucks aren’t just serving up tacos or burgers – from gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches to sweet and savory crepes, you can find something that fits your style. The website Roaming Hungerroaminghunger.com - can help you find food trucks in your city and provides a brief description of what they have to offer as well as a link to that food truck’s website.

4. Late Night Noshes Receptions can often go late into the night and dancing can work up quite an appetite in your guests. Why not treat them to some late night snacks to help end the night with an even bigger bang! They don’t have to be big - sliders and fries, milk and cookies or even s’mores – are foods that can be served in small portions and easily carried as guests leave your venue.
